On my way to grammar class

I can see that we will be working on our map skills!  I will help you use my Plan de Paris this quarter and you will see how simple it is to use!  I believe in ALL of you and KNOW that you can get around a big city, no matter where it is located in the world!  We now know that an arrondisement is a section of Paris and that the Quartier latin is its' student/university section.  Some of you found out that it is called the Quartier latin because students used to only speak Latin when going to school -- remember, my university was founded in the twelth century!  Some of you also found out that "la Rive Gauche" means the Left Bank, but do you know what that means?  You're about to find out...

As I mentioned in my last post, I not only took classes at the Sorbonne, but also had a grammar class in another section of Paris found on "la Rive Gauche".  Paris is divided into two parts --  "la Rive Gauche" and "la Rive Droite" -- and this simply means "the Left Bank" and "the Right Bank" of the Seine River that flows through the city.  Fortunately for me, my grammar class was right around the corner from the Seine on la Rive Gauche.  I walked along the Seine everyday and everyday, it took me past Notre Dame.  Can you believe that?!  I walked past Notre Dame EVERYDAY.  Oui, tous les jours -- c'est vrai!  To me, I couldn't have felt more Parisien than this!

So, while I did not always enjoy my grammar class (we had to wear headphones and I never saw the face of the person who spoke to me), I always made sure to go to this class because I could walk along the Seine and see Notre Dame and well, there was that patisserie...stay tuned...

PS - Poisson d'avril!  If you haven't taped a fish to the back of a friend or a loved one yet, you still have time!  :-)

I can't wait to use the Plan de Paris and actually know how to use it. The pictures are tres beau! I can't believe that you walked by Notre Dame everyday. And is Notre Dame like a cathedral/ church kind of place? And if it is did you ever get to meet a french nun?
Au-revoir pour maitenant!

I know that I would have loved to walk along a big river past Notre Dame everyday. As for the grammar class....I probably would have gone insane after two classes if I found that I'd never met the person who was teaching me. That would tick me off, for some reason :)

Yay! I'm happy that we'll be working on our map skills! I find that maps are very fun to look at and try and figure out but that I don't really know how to use them properly. So that is going to be fun for me! P.S. I think we need our own "tape a fish to the back of the shirt" day. (:

I'm looking forward to learning how to use the Plan de Paris! Hopefully it's not as difficult as it looks. You're so lucky you got to walk by Notre Dame every day! I went there when I was in Paris once and it was so awesome.

I can not wait until I get to plan my trip to Paris, knowing me I'm just going to wing it and won't use a map. I'm so excited to walk past all of the amazing sites. I was reading a book on all the sites in Paris and it says all the history about them, it's amazing. I wish America was as beautiful as France. And what about fish on people's back?

That is so cool! I've never seen the real Notre Dame (only in Disney movies), and the pictures look beautiful. I love how Paris isn't just big buildings, but they value elegance. And how come Paris is divided in so many ways??

Yaay! Map skills!
I absolutely love Parisian architecture! Like Isabella said, it's so elegant and beautiful.
I don't understand why you physically had to go somewhere for a grammar class if you had no teacher, why didn't they give you a cd and just tell you to learn it?

I would hate to learn grammar with no teacher. Especially when speaking a different language. Walking past Notre Dame must have been really amazing. It would be good to know how to get around a big city.

I can't wait to learn more about the French maps. Now I really want to walk along the river past Notre Dame everyday. The grammar class sounds like it would be very boring. The day I got home from school on friday I taped a fish to Joeys back!

if I taped a fish on my sister's back she'd get mad. I love the idea of walking past amazing, famous landmarks everyday. I mean America is still a relatively young country- we don't have anything as old and beautiful as Notre Dame.

I'm going to need to work on my map skills for when I go to Paris! Everything there is so beautiful and looks so perfect I want to go there soooo bad!

I agree with Emma. If you don't have a teacher- why do you need to actually 'go to class'

Oh my gosh your school is so gorgeous. I wish Mahoney looked like that! It must of been amazing to see all the history in that building. That really seems like an amazing experience. I'm so jealous now, I want to see that school!

I bet grammar class would be kind of boring if you couldn't see the person you were talking to. That's what the rivers are called, that is pretty cool and those are the only sections of paris?

Your so lucky to have gotten to see all those famous landmarks and to have even gotten to live in Paris in the first place. I'd like to learn how to use the Plan de Paris, then I think we should take a field trip to Paris to see if the map learning lessons paid off. And I will make a note to tape a fish to cree's back sometime soon.

That would be loads of fun to be able to go by Notre Dame everyday. Now I understand why Paris has a part called "la Rive Gauche", the "Gauche" part meaning left. That just hit me! Anyways, I don't think I will every be able to understand that map, I am not good at maps what so ever. That is extremely cool that your school was built in the twelfth century. Like Cree said it was very beautiful! And also like Casey said you were really lucky to see all of those famous landmarks! I don't understand the whole fish tapping back thing, what is it about?

You never saw your teacher? I would find that hard to learn under those conditions. The river in the picture looks pretty cool though. Cool castle thing too. Where did you get that music?

Walking past Notre Dame EVERY day must have been an amazing experience for you! I can't imagine walking past it every day! I can understand how you didn't always enjoy grammar class though. If I had to be taught
something through someone in headphones it would drive me CRAZY!!!!
I would be totally freaking out wanting to know if it was an actual person or a robot thing speaking through the headphones!

I would love to walk around such a serene place all the time! (only if I knew where I was going first) even if the class wasn't my favorite, because i would just be so happy to be in france!

WOWW, taking school there looks like a blast just based on the exterior of it. It makes Mahoney look like a kids play house. I dont know if Id want to take a class through head phones though. As you were studying there language in person, did anyone practice there english on you?

It must have been so cool walking by Notre Dame everyday. Thing that you are passing a world wide land mark must have been great. Even if you had to go to grammar class.

Even if I did not like grammar class, I would totally walk there every day just to see the site! It must have been so cool for you to see pictures of the places, and there ACTUALLY be able to stand right next to them! I bet when you see pictures of the places to saw or went to in Paris you always have a great memory to go with them!
